Learn something new everyday! If I ever get to New Zealand I will know at least one NZ word.
Jandals sounds more sophisticated than flip flops. Enjoy every minute of the last days of summer as I suffer through this long, long, winter.
Thank you! Fly Girl, we had a very long winter last year so I feel your pain:-( I hope it starts warming up soon.
I too want summer to continue . now that this is the last offical weekend of summer .. of what has been the worst summer in many years!
the name jandels came form the guy who 'invented' them in nz .. A MIX Japanese and sandles .....and how he copied the idea .. well thats what i have heard .. its a trademaeked name here but we call all 'fipflops' jandels , but shops etc can't!!
re coffee . check out my page re coffee http://kiwitravelwriter.wordpress.com
Thanks for stopping by, Heather. I hardly want to say it out loud but this week has been nice and sunny up here (I hope it's been the same for you!). Is it trying to make up for such a short summer, I wonder?
The version of the story I know is related to the Olympics and how the Japanese team were spotted wearing what became known as "jandals" (ie. the aforementioned Japanese-saldals equation). I wonder if the guy you are talking about is the same person. At any rate the jandal is here to stay!
Summer - what's that again? Sunshine and warmth, I've heard of those!
Yep, don't worry Niamh. Our short and sweet summer is coming to and end very quickly down here this year. Lucky you to be headed into spring (Could you hear my sarcasm/ jealousy?).
