Thank you! Yes, it worked really well. Very Thai style being made in a washing up-sized metal bowl (can't get those cool enamel ones with the flowers here). I didn't have strong enough wire cutter to trim the mesh but it turned out to be a convenient way to lift it off the barbecue when hot. Thus the "fancy" design.
One of the things I love about being out in the bush/ wilderness is how resourceful you have to be and all the interesting things that evolve. I haven't been canoeing since I was a child!
For various reasons I've lived in 5 countries and travelled in quite a few in between. As such, most of my life is about exploring new ideas, discovering wonderful things and people, and food!I live in New Zealand, one of the most beautiful places on the planet, but my spiritual home is in Asia. This blog is simply my general ramblings to entertain my good friends, family, and myself. I am always happy to receive comments.
Enjoying my new space! See recent post for address.
what I'm reading now
Eat, Pray, Love Elizabeth Gilbert
I'm partly reading this because I feel like I should for some reason and partly because she's coming to the Auckland Reader's and Writer's Festival, which I'm getting involved in this year. But, I have to say I'm having a hard time getting in to it. Some parts are good and some parts are excruciating. I don't think I was the target audience.

Cute! Did it work? Looks like you'd get some interesting designs on the meat!

Thar's really clever! A barbecue would be wonderful now, we're covered in snow!
Awww! I hope you're not too cold. If you can't barbecue you'll have to make do with a lovely pot of soup:-)
I love that, too! We actually created a similar BBQ grill once when we went on a canoeing trip and it worked great!
